THESIS: Important Updates

Since most of you were not around last meeting, here are the details of what we have discussed in connection to our Capstone Preliminary Defense on December 14, 2013, Saturday.

1. Please revise your documents and follow the correct format for Capstone Project Documentation. Use the Final Module document as your guide. You should already finished Chapters 1, 2, and 3 which already includes the data flow diagram. Please ask your advisers if you title and documents are okay and have them revised it if not.

2. You should have already approached your advisers for consultation. Like what I have said in my previous post, you should prepare a notebook where you will take note the date and the details of every consultation you made with your adviser and have her/him sign it. You should have at least one consultation with your advisers before the date of our defense. In connection to this, here is how you can contact your advisers:

Prof. Vanessa Concillado - every Friday afternoon or email at iccdavao@gaigaihub.com, FB: Gai Iag
Prof. Mark Buladaco - Wed 4-5pm, Thurs 6-7 pm, 7pm onwards every day
Prof. Rogelio Badiang Jr. - Tuesdays 4:30 pm
Prof. Shiela Carillo - email at shielabcarillo@gmail.com, 09109279276
Prof. Joanna Grace Malvas - MWF 6pm onwards, email at jgn.malvas@gmail.com

Please make sure that your adviser receives the letter of assignment to them as an adviser and have them signed the certification. You should show me the certification BEFORE FRIDAY to prove that you have already consulted your advisers.

3. Right after your advisers have checked your documents, have it submitted and edited by your grammarians. You should submit your documents to the grammarians BEFORE WEDNESDAY so they will have more time to check and edit your documents before you will print it for the final defense. Please submit your documents with a hard copy. Here are the assigned groups for every grammarian.

Prof. Grace Alfante (available 9-11 am everyday) - groups of Palma, Andres, Patarata, Basnillo, Layson
Prof. July Cahate - groups of Artista, Sakkam, Calunsag, Fuerzas, Natividad, Auxilla

Do not also forget to give the letter of assignment to you grammarians and have them signed the certification.

4. Part of the defense preparation is the fees for the consultant, panelist, grammarian, and food for the visitors. In connection to this, here is the breakdown of the fees which will INCLUDE PRELIMINARY and FINAL DEFENSE.

         Consultant - 700 per group
         Panelist - 350 X 3 panelist = 1050 per group
         Grammarian - 200 per group
         Food - 200 per group
         ---------------------------------
         TOTAL - 2150 PER GROUP

Since this is just Preliminary Defense, I will only collect HALF OF THE FEE which is P1000 PER GROUP on or before Dec. 13, Friday. The rest of the fee will be collected on or before the Final Defense. If you have questions regarding the breakdown of fees, PLEASE APPROACH ME DIRECTLY. I did not create the breakdown of fees. This is the standard for any research defense.

5. On the day of the Defense, Dec. 14, 2013, you should already be in school before 8am. The panelist will not wait for you. This is your chance to defend you project proposal. Note that if you can't defend your project and your title, you will have to repeat the whole process of looking for another title. Here are the things you should prepare for that day:

*Wear formal attire - Ladies (blouse and skirt or slacks, dress), Gents (polo, long sleeves, slacks)
*Prepare a powerpoint presentation containing maximum of 22 slide. Use Arial as the font. Do not copy everything in the slide. Your presentation should be in bulleted format so you will be the one to expound the contents of the slide. Make sure you only have maximum of 8-10 lines of words per slide
*Practice speaking in ENGLISH during defense.

I will assign the food committee on the next meeting. Please please please, if you have question or clarifications, don't hesitate to approach me or email me.

GOOD LUCK! :) SEE YOU ON WEDNESDAY AND DO NOT BE ABSENT!

Attention to the group of Palma:
Revise your proposal as Mobile First Aid Kit using Philippine Herbal Medicines or Plants.
